Casa Miani Arvedi – Buschini home for the poor children in Bayong, Cadulawan

By: Fr. Ronald Badillo, CRS

Casa Miani is a home for boys or poor children without any serious physical or even psychological  handicaps, who because of the loss of theirs parent or other circumstances, are deprived of physical, moral, Christian  and educational cares and so hindered in their total development.

It was according to the example set by St. Jerome Emiliani (1486 – 1537) who chose to live with the poor and dedicated himself completely to the abandoned children, the Somascan Fathers of Casa Miani Foundation, moved by the increasing number of need, children ( school drop outs, beggars, neglected, abandoned, poor) developed a plain intervention aimed to promote their human, moral , Christian spiritual growth, formed balanced personalities, and prepared the children to be reintegrated in family settings ( original, foster, adoptive) or in the society with an educational attainment and or with the work or profession.

The Somascan Pedagogical Tradition teaches that St. Jerome grounded his “opera” (project), in favor of the destitute youth, over a deep knowledge of Christian principles and values  and along with the pedagogical tradition of the Somascan Congregation ,  that Casa Miani is determined to offer support to the young population in all over the world at anytime and  here in the Philippines.

In the Philippines Casa Miani has five actual operational branches,; Casa Miani  “Sto. Niňo” in Lubao, Pampanga, Casa Miani “ Augusta and Piera “ in Sorsogon City, Casa Miani “ San Jose” in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Casa Miani “Arvedi” in Dumaguete City and Casa Miani “ Arvedi Buschini “ in Cadulawan  in Minglanilla, Cebu.

The Casa Miani here in Cebu begun in 2004 when three of the Somascan priests  namely  Fr. Gabriele Scotti ( the Major Superior), Fr. Richard Germanetto ( financial officer), and Fr. Romeo Sabayton who is from Minglanilla, Cebu went around to search for a land. They were accepted as guests for a couple of time by Mgsr. Esteban Binghay, parish priest of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and at the Sabayton family. later on, they met Mrs. Rosita Lopes of Nexus Real Estate Inc. and made a tentative agreement for the purchase of land located in Cadulawan, Minglanilla. The Somascan Fathers then made an audience with the Bishop of Cebu Cardinal Ricardo Vidal in July 20, 2004. The project was manifested  to the Cardinal by the major Superior and the Cardinal expressed his eagerness to see the inauguration of the project before his retirement.

The Casa Miani Arvedi Buschini Cebu finally started their operation with the arrival of four boys on May 5, 2008 from Naga City. They were refered to the Somascan fathers by DSWD form Naga City. The Casa Miani Arvedi Buschini finally inaugurated and blessed by Most Reverent Bishop John Du, Bishop of Dumaguete City.

Benefactors, supportive families and volunteers can be part of the association “ friends of Casa Miani”, a group open to all who are willing to share their lives and resources for these children in the spirit of St. JEROME EMILIANI, the father of the Orphans and the universal patron of the needy youth.
